Duke had three of its highly touted freshman go down with injuries, yet still managed to win four games and take another Top 10 team to overtime. The question now is, will that loss knock the Blue Devils from the top spot in Mondays AP Top 25?The case for No. 1: Duke (4-1) beat No. 21 Rhode Island by 10, rolled over three other opponents and lost by two to No. 7 Kansas in overtime. The Blue Devils did it with freshmen Harry Giles, Jayson Tatum and Marques Bolden all out with injuries, so imagine what they can do when everyone is healthy. The case against No. 1: No. 3 Kentucky (3-0) and No. 3 Villanova (4-0) are still undefeated and both have wins over Top 25 teams. The Wildcats survived a grinding game against No. 13 Michigan State to win by 21 and the defending champion Wildcats held off No. 15 Purdue by three behind preseason All-American Josh Harts array of big shots. Either team could be a legitimate choice for No. 1 and the Blue Devils had another injury against Penn State last week when junior Chase Jeter sprained his right ankle, leaving them even more vulnerable. When were healthy were going to have a lot of good players, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. Right now, we have a lot fewer. It will be up to the poll voters to decide whether Dukes injuries should be a factor in deciding a No. 1 team or if, after a week and a half, its already time for someone else to get a turn.Tune in Monday.---DILLONS DUCKSPut No. 4 Oregon in the same category as the Blue Devils. The Ducks moved up a spot from the preseason poll, but lost 66-49 to unranked Baylor after struggling in the second half. The caveat is that preseason All-American Dillon Brooks has yet to play this season. The do-it-all guard is still recovering from offseason foot surgery and left the Ducks with a big early-season hole in their lineup. Oregon coach Dana Altman said Brooks could play some at the Maui Invitational this week.Oregon will fall at least a few spots in the upcoming poll, but its tough to say are far.---HIGHLIGHT REELThe first two weeks of the season have been filled with some fantastic dunks already. This one by Villanovas Jalen Brunson against Wake Forest has to be up there among the best.---MASON RISESA big theme heading into the season was the stellar class of freshmen across the country.A senior from the Midwest is making a lot waves and put himself in the early conversation for national player of the year.Kansas guard Frank Mason III has been superb through the seasons first two weeks, averaging 23 points, 5.7 assists and 4.7 rebounds. He scored 30 points against Indiana, including the final 11, then hit the game-winning shot with 1.8 seconds left in overtime against Duke to cap a 21-point night.I think the NBA is missing the boat on him, Kansas coach Bill Self said. I think he doesnt fit the eye test with length and standing height and that kind of stuff, but hes got some things you cant teach, and intangibles that are as good as anybody in American probably possesses.---FRESHMAN WATCHLonzo Ball, UCLA. The predictions for Balls impact seemed to be a bit exaggerated when he arrived in Westwood with so much hype. Its only been three games, but maybe there wasnt enough hype. The 6-foot-6 guard from nearby Chino Hills had a superb college debut, finishing with 19 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds in a blowout win over Pacific.Ball is averaging close to a triple-double so far, with 15 points, 8.3 assists and 7.7 rebounds per game. Keep that up and hell be in the national POY conversation as well.---RHODY RISESRhode Island was No. 23 in the AP preseason Top 25, its first time being ranked since 1998-99.The Rams may end up staying there all season. With four starters and E.C. Matthews back from a torn ACL, Rhode Island had preseason expectations of making a run at the Atlantic 10 title. The 21st-ranked Rams (4-1) opened the season with three straight wins, followed with a victory over No. 24 victory over Cincinnati and made a late run at top-ranked Duke before losing on Sunday.---More AP college basketball: www.collegebasketball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25 Christian Okoye Super Bowl Jersey . Fernando Alonso says McLaren can still live up to its own expectations if it overhauls Toro Rosso in the Singapore Grand Prix after struggling more than expected in qualifying.Ahead of the weekend Alonso and teammate Jenson Button predicted the team could be fourth fastest in Singapore but the Spaniard had to settle for ninth behind Toro Rosso pair Carlos Sainz and Daniil Kvyat and Force Indias Nico Hulkenberg. Alonso is not too disappointed with his spot on the fifth row because he thinks Toro Rossos car is suited to Marina Bay.When asked what McLaren was missing and why it was not the fourth quickest car as predicted, he replied: Well I think we are more or less in that position, just Toro Rosso is surprisingly good here, or lets say they have a car that is good for a street circuit, with a lot of down force, a lot of drag but we know that after this track we should be in front of them regularly. We are still aiming to be the fourth quickest team for the rest of season and tomorrow hopefully finish in front of them. Its damage limitation tomorrow in terms of constructor points and attack from Malaysia on.The two-time world champion thinks McLaren should bbe pleased with how close it came to living up to expectations.ddddddddddddI think the job is done I think being in Q3 and being in the points of Sunday. Q3 is done so now lets wait and see for tomorrow. We seem to be struggling more than expected. However, Alonso, who only made it into the Q3 shootout with a last-gasp lap late in the middle session, was at a loss to describe why McLaren struggled so much for pace.I think the pace unfortunately was not great and we struggled a little bit in Q2. We saw one car going out and then in Q3 just ninth but its the way it is. Hopefully tomorrow we can do a good start, a good strategy and score some big points. At the moment the pace seems to not to come to us too easy.We have to be optimistic, always things happen in Singapore. There is a lot of action in the race, a lot of safety cars, a lot of incidents so we have to be ready to be flexible in terms of our strategy but I think the start and the first couple of laps and the pit stop time will be crucial so we need to study well tonight. TORONTO - Josh Johnson didnt last long enough to get the victory as the Blue Jays season-high winning streak extended to six with Mondays 2-0 win over the Colorado Rockies. But he was dominant over seven and a third, the most innings hes logged in a single game this season and, as is the mantra for starting pitchers these days, Johnson gave his team a chance to win. “Great outing,” said manager John Gibbons. “You look at since hes been back, two out of the three have been dominating performances. That game in San Francisco, of course he came up with the blister, but this is the first one back since then. He had everything going on. A good live fastball that had a lot of jump on it and a good breaking ball.” Johnson struck out a personal season-high 10 hitters, becoming just the second Jays pitcher this year to fan double digits (R.A. Dickey punched out 10 Giants on May 14.) Mixing his mid-90s fastball with devastating curveballs and sliders, he had a bulldog mentality in holding Colorado to five hits. “Just aggressive, a lot more aggressive than the last outing,” said Johnson. “Just trying to pound the zone, throw my slider, throw my curveball, kind of both sides of the plate, mostly in to lefties but it worked out.” “He needed that. Hes looking to bounce back and contribute and I think he felt really good tonight,” said Gibbons. Brett Cecil finds his niche Brett Cecil came on in relief of Johnson with one out in the eighth inning. The Rockies had runners at second and third in what still was a scoreless game. He induced a lineout from Carlos Gonzalez, one of the National Leagues premier left-handed hitters, and after an intentional walk to Michael Cuddyer, got a ground ball from Todd Helton to end the threat. Consider Cecils role in the Blue Jays bullpen today: hes become Gibbons left-handed go-to guy. A little less than three months ago he was approached by a group of reporters at his locker in Dunedin. Cecil had just emerged from a meeting in which hed been informed hed made the team as a long man in the bullpen. There had been doubt and had he not had such a good spring, he may have been cut. By the way, Cecils intentional walk of Cuddyer snapped a streak of 25 consecutive hitters retired dating back to May 31. Reyes and Morrow return to game action After playing in simulated games on Friday and Saturday, Jose Reyes returned to pro ball action on Monday for the first time since severely spraining his left ankle on April 12 in Kansas City. Reyes went 2-3 with two singles, two runs scored and a strikeout playing five innings for Single-A Dunedin. Meantime, Brandon Morrow made his first of what will be either two or three rehab starts. Morrow, on a 50-pitch count ceiling, allowed three runs on five hits over two innings. Manager John Gibbons says he expects Reyes and Morrow to play for either Double-A New Hampshire or Triple-A Buffalo. Theres no firm timeline for either players return. With a run of 10-straight games against American League East rivals starting on Friday, its reasonable to expect Reyes to rejoin the club if not for the beginning of the stretch, shortly into it. Dallas hasnt ruled out the star quarterback for Sunday nights game against Philadelphia, but all signs point to Romos back injury pushing Kyle Orton into the starting role after two years of limited play as the backup. Surely Ortons name isnt the first that comes to mind for fans wanting a change after years of damaging interceptions, fumbles or, most infamously, the field goal flub when Romo dropped the snap on a kick that could have won his first playoff game in 2006. PHILADELPHIA -- Jeremy Hellickson kept his mindset simple.Hellickson pitched a three-hitter and A.J. Ellis backed him with a three-run double to lead the Philadelphia Phillies over the fading Miami Marlins 8-0 Saturday night.Keep the ball down, get ahead and let the defense work, Hellickson said.Sounds easy. Hellickson certainly made it look that way. That was fun. Hes been outstanding all year, Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said. Hes a great guy, a good worker and very focused.Miami, which fell six games back for the NLs second wild card, trailed by seven runs in the second inning and lost for the 14th time in 20 games.Hellickson (12-9) struck out five, walked none and hit two batters in his second big league shutout and third complete game. He threw 75 of 106 pitches for strikes. It wasnt something I was thinking about, he said of the shutout. It was nice to go out there and get a chance to finish it.The 2011 AL Rookie of the Year with Tampa Bay, Hellickson pitched a four-hit shutout against Baltimore that May 13 and another four-hitter against the Orioles that Sept. 4.Its been a long time, he said.Miamis only hits were singles by Dee Gordon leading off the game and Martin Prado in the fourth, and Derek Dietrichs double in the seventh.Tommy Joseph also homered in a game that took 2 hours, 42 minutes, nearly half the 4:43 of the Philadelphias 4-3, 13-inning win Friday night.Jose Urena (4-7) lasted just two innings and allowed seven runs and seven hits in his worst outing since moving to the starting rotation on July 19. Urena pitched 8 2/3 innings in last Sundays 3-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. He had trouble keeping the ball down, Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. They were waiting for his fastball.Philadelphia took a 5-0 lead in the first on Ellis two-out, bases-clearing double just inside the bag at third and RBI doubles by Odubel Herrera and Maikkel Franco.ddddddddddddThat was a giant hit, Mackanin said of Ellis double.Joseph hit a two-run homer in the second off Urena, giving the rookie first baseman 20 for the season. You have to make the right pitches and learn from games like this, Urena said. This kind of game, it happens.STREAKING PITCHERSPhillies pitchers have four complete games and have allowed three runs or fewer in 14 consecutive games, the teams longest stretch since going 17 in a row in 2000.JOSEPHS TURNAROUNDJoseph became the third Phillies rookie since 1972 to hit at least 20 homers, joining Ryan Howard (22 homers in 2005) and Scott Rolen (21 in 1997).Its been quite a turnaround for Joseph, a converted catcher who struggled with concussions in the minor leagues. He was left off the Phillies 40-man roster following last season and his goal entering spring training was to get a September call-up.At this time last year, a lot of people were giving up on my future, he said. Now with 20 homers in The Show, its pretty special. It means a lot to me.PRADO HITS PHILLIESPrado went 1 for 1 and is batting .306 in his career against the Phillies, ranking third among active players hitting against Philadelphia. Miguel Cabrera (.337) and Daniel Murphy (.312) have higher averages.TRAINERS ROOMMarlins: OF Giancarlo Stanton was out of the starting lineup after making his first start in the field on Friday night following a three-week stint on the disabled list (left groin strain) that ended Sept. 5. Stanton had been pinch-hitting since returning.Phillies: Howard was a late scratch from the starting lineup at first base due to left knee soreness.UP NEXTThe teams close their three-game set on Sunday when Miami RHP Andrew Cashner (5-11, 5.22) opposes RHP Alec Asher (1-0, 1.46). STORRS, Conn. -- UConn coach Bob Diaco says his Huskies are built to play close games.Since the start of last season, 10 of UConns 16 contests have been decided by a single score (eight points or fewer), including all three this season. The latest was a 13-10 win over Virginia (0-3) last Saturday that wasnt secured until Virginias walk-on kicker, Alex Furbank, missed a 20-yard field goal as time expired. But the quality of the opponent doesnt seem to be much of a factor for UConn (2-1).The Huskies are 6-4 in those one-score contests, with wins over Villanova (20-15), Army (22-17), Tulane (7-3), then-No. 13 Houston (20-17), Maine (24-21) and Virginia. The losses came to then No. 22 Missiouri (9-6), South Florida (28-20), Marshall (16-10 in the St. Petersburg Bowl and Navy (28-24).Diaco said the tight margins are more a function of UConns style -- a stingy defense combined with a ball-control style of offense. The analogy I would draw is like a hockey game or a soccer game, he said. Theyre all decided by one goal or two goals when the points are down. Were kind of built that way.Under Diaco, UConn doesnt give up a lot of big plays, using a bend-dont-break style defense that eschews a lot of blitzing and forces opponents to move methodically down the field. The Huskies are holding the competition to 19.7 points and an average of 352 yards a game this year after giving up just 19.5 points and 355 yards per game a year ago.We take pride in always being in the game and always having a chance to win the game, said defensive tackle Mikal Myers. But Diaco acknowledges UConn would win more and win by more points if it had a more efficient offense. The Huskies are averaging just 20.3 points and 331 yards per game this season, which ranks 111th out of 128 FBS teams. Last season they averaged just 17.2 points, and just over 310 yards a game, 123rd in the nation.I cant hide from it, Diaco said. Everyone watching the games knows it.Ball control will be a key for UConn this week against Syracuse (1-2). The Orange run an fast-paced offense that snapped the ball a school-record 105 times in a 45-20 loss to South Florida. They average one play about every 20 seconds while on offense.Field position is a huge piece for this model, Diaco said. Time of possession is a huge piece to this model. That, when you play in a game like this, becomes even more critical.---AP college football website: www.collegefootball.org Josh Jackson Super Bowl Jersey . Dominance is the name of the game, and EnVyUs sits on top of the world with two back-to-back Overwatch championships in both APEX in South Korea and MLG Vegas. After the induction of Pongphop Mickie Rattanasangohod into the lineup for EnVyUs, almost all of their games in both APEX and at this weekends Major League Gaming Vegas were one-sided stomps by EnVyUs.The first semifinals match on Sunday was no exception as Cloud9 fell to their power. All of the excellence shown from C9 in previous matches, such as Lane Surefour Roberts excellent DPS play on heroes like McCree and Soldier 76, was no match to each individual player on the EnVyUs roster. Jonathan harryhook Tejedor Rua was allowed to shine on EnVyUs as a DPS player once Mickie joined the team. Formerly a Lucio superstar, the world was stunned by his precise accuracy on hitscan heroes like Soldier 76 and he continued to prove himself as one of the best. After besting Cloud9 3-0, nV advanced to the finals where they would face off against FaZe Clan.To make it to the finals, FaZe Clan had had to take on Fnatic first. It was one of the closest, if not the closest, series at MLG Vegas. Going all the way to five games, FaZe Clan almost gotten written out of the running when Fnatic led the series 2-1. But on both Watchpoint: Gibraltar and Nepal, FaZe Clan executed heroic comebacks from the brink of defeat. Fnatic tried everything to secure their victory, even with Hafthhor Hafficool Hakonarson playing his in-your-face style of Pharah being a key to their strategy, but FaZe Clan was able to identify what heroes they needed to pick to adapt.dddddddddddd. For one, both George ShaDowBurn Guschcha and Jared zombs Gitlin adopted the Pharah Barrage and Zarya Graviton Surge combo for themselves and laid waste to Fnatics roster for a 3-2 victory. After this close victory, FaZe went into the finals with confidence that they would do well against EnVyUs only to be smashed to fragments of their former selves, as they were swept in almost record time for a best-of-seven set. The nature of the set could be described by the defining play on Nepal, where FaZe Clan approached the control point on Shrine. FaZes Russel FCTFCTN Campbell was in front on Reinhardt, protecting the rest of his team with the shield, but Sebastian chipshajen Widlund snuck around the corner to Sleep Dart FCTFCTNs Reinhardt. The moment he fell to the floor, Christian cocco Jonsson landed a four-man Earthshatter which left FaZe Clan completely vulnerable and unable to do anything. FaZe Clan were destroyed 4-0 by EnVyUs who claim their second major title in a row, and a clear spot at the top of the competitive Overwatch scene. Are they a tower that will soon topple, or is this the start of a dynasty? ' ' '

Star halfback Shaun Johnson says the Warriors determination to hang tough is the most-satisfying aspect of their come-from-behind 27-18 NRL win over Gold Coast.Johnson, nursing a thigh complaint, broke open what had been a tight contest on Saturday in Auckland with a brilliant solo try 14 minutes from fulltime. He said credit had to given to the Titans, who didnt trail until the final quarter. They scrambled hard, they were in our faces and they put us under pressure, he said. Our ability to stay in it and to weather that was probably the most pleasing thing. The Warriors were just two points in front when Johnson received the ball 60 metres out and went on a weaving run to the tryline. His effort made light of the quad strain he had taken into the past three matches.Ive just wanted to make it to the games and Ive been able to do that, Johnson said.Obviously, after this week is the bye so it should be fine by the time we play again. The win on Saturday was the Warriors fourth in their past five matches to keep them on the cusp of the top eight. It also helped to celebrate back-rower Simon Mannerings 250th first-grade appearance.Mannering stood in as captain, after regular skipper Ryan Hoffman was struck down by a virus. The Titans were missing co-captains William Zillman and Nathan Friend, who - along with rising halfback Ash Taylor - were among four late injury withdrawals. They also lost Karl Lawton early in the second half, the 20-year-old centre taken off on a stretcher in his NRL debut with a suspected broken ankle. That left them down to 15, as interchange forward Ryan Simpkins had gone off just before halftime with concussion.Stand-in skipper Ryan James played down the fact that the Titans ended up undermanned, saying it was lack of discipline that cost them. You cant really blame it on people going down, he said.Weve got the fitness behind us with what weve done in the pre-season.This came down to ill-discipline and not being able hold the ball. We shot ourselves in the foot. The Titans made a spectacular start as former Kiwi Josh Hoffman returned a grubber 95 metres for a try.Warriors centre Blake Ayshford replied with his own 80-metre effort from an intercept.Titans winger Nene Macdonald and Warriors counterpart Tuimoala Lolohea then both scored to have the teams tied 10-10 at halftime. The Warriors finally went ahead with the second of two Issac Luke penalties before Johnson made his decisive intervention. After Bodene Thompson added the Warriors fourth try, Taylors replacement Cameron Cullen grabbed a late consolation for the visitors. Im a three-category maven: music, film and sports. Ive long been fascinated by hot streaks in all three areas.Paul McCartney often speaks of 1966-67 (Revolver/Sgt. Pepper/Magical Mystery Tour) as being his hot period. Id add 1973, the year of Band on the Run and Live and Let Die. Nearly all of the 25 songs he primarily wrote and recorded across those three years comprised about a third of his set at Oldchella last month. I paid a ton of money to see him play. The human mind curates a well-lit, shatterproof-glass display case for our personal hot streaks. As we age, and our personal mean increasingly solidifies, it becomes easier to identify the eras when we really had things going. As an early-pubescent power forward, I had a four-game hot streak in seventh grade in which I averaged 12 points per game -- double my PPG average for that era. (I was more of a Laimbeer-esque instigator). This streak was largely based on my ability to hit a shot from one spot on the court at the end of a certain designed play. For four games, I hit that shot nearly every time. Then I regressed to the mean. Two years later, I was out of basketball and in Pirates of Penzance. What does all this have to do with you?Plenty.Because its my job to help you frame fantasy production in relative terms.Over the first month of the season, we tend to overreact to strong starts. This overreaction becomes pronounced when it comes to point production and field goal percentage performance. One stat I like to use when taking someones shot-making temperature is effective field goal percentage (eFG%). Effective field percentage accounts for the extra point generated by a successively converted 3-pointer.Its calculated like this: (2pt FGM + 1.5 x 3PT FGM / FGA)The average NBA eFG is right about 50 percent (Monta Ellis). Elite eFG% starts around 55 percent (Rodney Hood). Top-shelf eFG% starts around 60 percent (Clint Capela).Im wizened. I have traded for Raef LaFrentz at 3 a.m. And I am here to tell you which hot-shooting starts indicate a season-long trend ... and which are bound for regression.(For perspective purposes, Im supplying career eFG%, last seasons eFG% and current eFG%.)Kevin Durant, SF/PF, Golden State WarriorsCareer eFG%: .519 2015-16 eFG%: .569 Current eFG%: .618Its not an obscure topic, but I am obsessed with how Durant has adapted to the Warriors offense. So far, Durant has provided a rough approximation of his Oklahoma City fantasy production (17.75 player rater points in 2015-16, 16.97 player rater points in 2016-17). All despite averaging his lowest usage rate (26.9) since 2009.Durants doing it all via efficiency. And its not all coming from where youd expect. One would assume Durant is simply lighting it up from downtown via the extra space provided by Steph Curry and company. But Durants current .404 3-point percentage is basically on par with his 3-point percentage since 2011.Plus his volume of 3-point attempts is markedly down (only 4.7 attempts versus 6.7 in 2015-16), which would normally lead to a drop in eFG%. Yet Durant is currently posting a career-high-busting .618 eFG% because of a boost in 2-point production.Durant is hitting a career-high 62 percent of his 2-pointers (previous high: 57 percent). Seventy-four percent of his shots this season are 2-pointers. And the extra boost in attempts isnt coming from mid-range, where youd expect streakiness.Durant is getting more dunks and layups. The kind of shots one tends not to miss.To date, a career-high 30 percent of Durants attempts are coming inside of three feet. Fourteen percent of all of Durants shot attempts are dunks. Durant is hitting 83 percent of his shots in the 0-3 foot range.Maybe defenses learn to adjust to Durants cuts. But I wouldnt bet on it. It looks like the Warriors spacing has resulted in a permanent shift in Durants shot selection.Durants eFG%: HOLDDamian Lillard, PG, Portland Trail BlazersCareer eFG%: .504 2015-16 eFG%: .497 Current eFG%: .538Lillard is scoring at Iversonian levels (29.8 points per game). Heres the question with Lillard: Are we seeing a peak-year (age 26) rise in 3-point efficiency, reminiscent of Steph Curry? No. Were not.Like with Durant, Lillard is performing slightly below career-high levels in 3-point production. Hes shooting 37 percent from downtown this season. In 2015-16, Lillard shot 37 percent from downtown. His volume of 3-point attempts (7.1) is down about 1 per game.Lillards eFG% boost is coming from inside the arc. He is hitting a career-high 52 percent of his 2-pointers.Lillard has increased his attempts from 0-3 feet, just like Durant. However, only four percent of Lillards attempts are dunks. Result: Lillards percentage in this range is lower (.645).Overall, Lillard has been more efficient from the floor because hes getting to the hoop with greater frequency. But the dramatic boost in Lillards scoring (from 25.3 points to 29.7) is mostly coming from the other area that increases when players go to the hoop: free throw production.Lillard has posted better than a 50 percent increase in free throw attempts (6.2 FTA to 9.6 FTA) over his 2015-16 average. And you probably know Lillard (like Curry) owns one of the best free throw percentages in the NBA (currently .913, career .873).As long as Lillard can survive the increase in driving, theres no reason to believe hell suffer a dramatic dropoff. As a matter of fact, his still-mediocre 3-point percentage suggests theres additional ceiling for the taking.Lillards eFG%: HOLDDeMar DeRozan, SG, Toronto RaptorsCareer eFG%: .458 2015-16 eFG%: .463 Current eFG%: .520Hes scoring 32.5 points per game! Over the past 10 games, DeRozan has been floating in rare Jordan-esque air.DeRozan has never been a good 3-point shooter, though. Outside of last season, Id volunteer that DeRozan -- by wing standards -- is a terrible 3-point shooter. His career percentage? .283. This season? .263. Hes contributing only 0.5 3-pointers a night. So, where are those extra 9-10 points per night coming from?Unlike Durant and Lillard, its not from up close. Ninety-two percent of DeRozans attempts are 2-pointers. Only 14 percent of those are coming from 0-3 feet. Only 22 percent are from 3-10 feet.Instead, DeRozan has dramatically upped his mid-range-to-deep 2-point shot attempts. Hes launching these shots -- eFG% killers -- at 1970s levels. Thirty-one percent?of DeRozans shots are coming from 16-21 feet. At present, hes hitting 51 percent of them!DeRozans career mark from 16-20 feet? Thirty-eight percent. He cant keep this up. Hes making 75 percent of those. Only 15 percent of his attempts come from behind the 3-point line (for good reason, as hes hitting only 19 percent of them). As Antetokounmpo continues to put it all together, and his range expands, his efficiency will increase. It will be interesting to watch how his efficiency and volume shifts over the next couple of seasons.Even within this season, Antetokounmpo should improve. He should up his 3-point percentage somewhere in the area of his career mark (27 percent).Antetokounmpos eFG%: BUYGeorge Hill, PG, Utah JazzCareer eFG%: .519 2015-16 eFG%: .528 Current eFG%: .622Hills explosion is tougher to peg. And he has shown flashes of this type of efficiency in the past (21.5 PER in 2014-15).One other big factor in field goal performance? Contract year.Hill is a free agent next summer. He has landed in a perfect spot to pad his numbers. If he stays healthy, Hill is in line for a career year. But age 30 would be a little late to suddenly morph into Steph Curry. Ill wager Hills season will be a little closer to Darren Collison than Steve Nash. And unfortunately, Hill isnt the kind of household name that tends to sell high in a trade. EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Just last season, Minnesota Vikings coaches gave Xavier Rhodes boxing gloves to wear during drills in practice. The idea was having Rhodes better learn how to effectively play cornerback without risking penalties for grabbing at the receiver.Opponents arent winning many rounds with Rhodes these days.Rhodes picked off Carson Palmer twice, including a 100-yard touchdown return that was the longest in team history, and helped lead the Vikings to a 30-24 victory over Arizona on Sunday that stopped their four-game losing streak. The fourth-year player, drafted by the Vikings in the first round out of Florida State with the selection they received from Seattle in the trade for wide receiver Percy Harvin, is tied for fourth in the NFL with four interceptions. Those are huge splash plays that everybody notices, but hes tackling, doing everything right, free safety Harrison Smith said. Hes playing lights out.The performance was prolific enough to trigger an NFL Network interview with Deion Sanders , the Pro Football Hall of Fame member and most famous of the many cornerbacks Florida State has produced. Sanders, who became well known for his flamboyance, teased Rhodes for not adding any flair to the end of his return.Though he plays with plenty of fire, Rhodes isnt much for show. He was too exhausted for a celebration by the time he reached the end zone for the first time since high school, so much so that he requested an oxygen mask on the sideline to help recover. My legs were dead, Rhodes said, and I was just tired. The receivers Rhodes has been covering lately have been worn out, too, from Kelvin Benjamin to Odell Beckham Jr. to DeAndre Hopkins. Palmer threw in his direction nine times, with three completions for a total of 19 yards. This week coach said to play our defense, be aggressive and go out there and tackle. Tight coverage, sack the quarterback, and this week we did all of that, Rhodes said. We accomplished all of our goals.Including, most importantly, victory. The defense didnt escape blame for the losing streak, with one issue an overzealous attempt to produce the kind of momentum-changing plays that Rhodes had on Sunday. The problem is when players chase them, usually out of desperation to boost a struggling team, other issues often arise.Rhodes and Smith, for example, each whiffed in overtime two weeks ago when they converged on Detroit wide receiver Golden Tate after a catch that he took into the end zone to win the game.We are all trying to make plays, Rhodes said. You just need to be disciplined.Thats just as important as aggression for a cornerback in this league, as Zimmer has long reminded his pupils. Zimmer, who coached Sanders for five seasons as the defensive backs coach in Dallas, has developed an affinity for Rhodes since taking the job three years ago.If we would just play a solid, fundamental football game and let the big plays come to us, they do, Zimmer said, adding: Theyre not always going to come, but you just have to do your job first and then the rest will happen.Just like that interception late in the second quarter with the Vikings clinging to a 13-10 lead and the Cardinals at third-and-goal at the 9. Palmer argued that cornerback Captain Munnerlyn held the intended target, John Brown, before Rhodes swooped in from behind.Im a competitive guy and he said he felt like his receiver was held on that play. I didnt think so at all. Im entitled to my space, and my space is on the field. He ran directly into me, so I jammed him up. I didnt grab. I didnt yank. I let him go. Balls in the air, Munnerlyn said. Xavier, I dont know where he came from, but he made the play and took it 100 yards.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL Air Force 1 Outlet . According to a report from the Winnipeg Free Press, the Bombers will name Acting GM Kyle Walters to the post full time. MIAMI -- For the Miami Dolphins, the usual optimism of training camp lasted only until the first scrimmage, when a dismal showing by the offense prompted all kinds of dire commentary about how 2016 was going to be more of the same.Tackle Branden Albert, not one to overreact after nine years in the NFL, suggested waiting a few more weeks before drawing conclusions.I dont know why everybody is getting their panties in a bunch, Albert said. We will see when the time is right. While Albert preaches patience, long-suffering Miami fans are anxious to know whether things will be different under Adam Gase, the teams ninth coach since 2004.Gase won raves for his work with Jay Cutler, Peyton Manning and Tim Tebow, and now hell try to help Ryan Tannehill become a winner.Hes an expert in pushing guys to reach their potential, Tannehill said, and Im excited to have him.Gase has given Tannehill broader flexibility to change plays, and urged the easygoing Texan to assume more of a leadership role as he begins his fifth NFL season. Tannehills resume includes 15,460 yards passing and 87 touchdowns while starting every game, but he has yet to lead Miami to a finish above .500, much less a playoff berth. The biggest thing Gase could to do to help Tannehill is provide him with better protection. Tannehill has been sacked 184 times since 2012, most in the NFL.Here are the other key issues that will help determine whether the Dolphins earn their first playoff berth in eight years:BLOCKING: The offensive line has been the biggest culprit during Miamis postseason drought, but the unit could be much improved thanks to the addition of first-round pick Laremy Tunsil, touted by some as the best player in the draft. The Dolphins novel solution to their blocking woes will likely be to start four left tackles, although Albert will be the only one lining up at that position. The others with experience at left tackle are Tunsil at left guard, veteran newcomer Jermon Bushrod at right guard and JaWuan James at right tackle. Center Mike Pouncey will anchor tthe unit when he returns from a preseason hip injury.dddddddddddd.COMEBACK BIDS: The Dolphins have two worrisome Achilles heels, belonging to running back Arian Foster and defensive end Cameron Wake. The pair of four-time Pro Bowlers are trying to come back from Achilles tendon surgery last year.Newcomer Foster could provide a big boost because the Dolphins have no other established running back. Jay Ajayi began training camp with the No. 1 unit after rushing for 187 yards as a rookie, but was unimpressive during the exhibition season.Wake, who has 70 career sacks, might assume a new, career-extending role as a pass-rush specialist on the Dolphins deep defensive line.DEFENSIVE WORRIES: Wake, newcomer Mario Williams and Ndamukong Suh give Miami a trio of four-time Pro Bowlers in the front four.We have great potential, new defensive coordinator Vance Joseph said. Those guys have a history of being great pass rushers, but thats on paper. Until we do it, nothing is solid. And the rest of the defense could cause Joseph headaches. Miami swung a trade to acquire middle linebacker Kiko Alonso and cornerback Byron Maxwell, but there were reasons (injury and underperformance) the Eagles let them go. And the Dolphins must count on a rookie, second-round draft pick Xavien Howard, at the other cornerback spot.TOUGH SCHEDULE: Perhaps the toughest early schedule of any team includes games at Seattle and at New England to start the season, so the Dolphins will likely find out quickly how Gase handles losing. The home opener is Sept. 25 against Cleveland, which will showcase the results of a $500 million stadium renovation that includes a flashy canopy and new video boards. All the stadium needs now is a winning team.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP-NFL---Follow Steven Wine on Twitter: http://twitter.com/Steve-Wine. DUNEDIN, Fla. Bobby Massie Jersey . -- After watching Esmil Rogers stumble, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons pulled out a baseball maxim. "Some of our top guys are putting together some good at-bats and some things like that," he said. "The key is pitching though. Thats going to take us as far as were going to go this year. Were trying to iron some things out, find out whos going to do what. We want strike-throwers." Rogers, in the mix for the Jays fifth starter, struck out six in his three innings Thursday in a 7-5 exhibition loss to the Houston Astros. But he also walked two and gave up four runs on five hits including two homers. "First inning he was good. Then he was shaky after that," was Gibbons pithy assessment of Rogers performance. "The key to him is throwing enough strikes. He could be a heck of a pitcher when he gets the ball into the strike zone. Weve seen it before, thats where he runs into trouble." With spring training entering its final weeks, the Jays are still looking wondering about their starting rotation. Gibbons pronouncement on pitching, while accurate, is hardly soothing to Toronto fans. Barring injuries, R.A. Dickey, Mark Buehrle and Brandon Morrow are expected to emerge as the first three starters. Rogers is competing against Drew Hutchison, J.A. Happ, Ricky Romero, Todd Redmond, Kyle Drabek, Marcus Stroman, Sean Nolin and Dustin McGowan for the fourth and fifth spots. Hutchison has drawn praise from general manager Alex Anthopoulos -- "We think Drews got a chance to be outstanding" -- while Gibbons called Romero "the big talk of camp right now." But questions remain. Rogers likely did not do himself any favours Thursday after a 1-2-3 first inning that featured a groundout and two strikeouts. Things went downhill from there. "My pitches were a little bit high," he said. "I lost my control." Teenage shortstop Carlos Correa, a 19-year-old who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 draft, and Jon Singleton hit back-to-back homers for Houston in the third inning off Rogers. Correa then drove in two more runs with a blast to centre in the eighth off Neil Wagner. In between, he made a slick fielding play in the fourth to throw out Brett Lawrie. Rogers said the Singleton homer came off a change-up, a pitch he suggested he might put aside for the time being. Starter Dallas Keuchel pitched four scoreless innings as Houston (7-6) posted its fourth straight win in the spring. The last time the Astros won four in a row in the Grapefruit League was in March 2011. McGowan was the best of the Blue Jays pitchers with two scoreless innings despite not having pitched in 10 days after being sidelined by a stomach bug that saw him lose eight pounds. The only blemish on his outing Thursday was a walk. McGowan still thinks of himself as a starting pitcher but, with only four spring innings under his belt, he is behind others. "Theres what I want to be," he said. "If Im there, great. If Im in the bullpen, also great. Its a win-win situation, I think." Houston went ahead 2-0 in the second on a Cesar Izturis single after Rogers dug himself in a bases-loaded hole with two walks and a single. Lawrie did his bit for the Toronto defence, gunning down Jesus Guzman at the plate before the Izturis hit. The Blue Jays (6-8) scored three in the fifth off Collin McHugh to cut the lead to 4-3. Houston made it 5-3 in the sixth via a sacrifice fly. Houston threatened again when Toronto pitcher Jeremy Jeffress loaded the bases in the seventh with no outs. He struck out one before giving way to Wagner, who struck out another and then escaped the inning when Ryan Goins made an eye-popping fielding play off a ball that flew off the pitchers body. There was action in the bottom of the seventh as Anthony Gose somehow turned a shallow fly ball into a triple when sliding Houston outfielder Adron Chambers was unable to chase the ball down. Kevin Pillar then was drilled by Josh Zeid with the Jays outfielder taking a long look at the Astros pitcher as he left the batters box. Gose scored on a fielders choice when Pillar was cut down stealing second, cutting the lead to 5-4. Gose also scored on a sacrifice fly in the ninth to make it 7-5 after Correas second homer extended the Houston lead. Keuchel has yet to give up a run in nine innings this spring. He scattered six hits over his four innings Wednesday, striking out two with no walks. The game featured half-brothers Cesar and Maicer Izturis, both starting at second base and batting ninth (the older Cesar for Houston and Maicer for Toronto). Toronto outhit Houston 13-12. Weaver, 35, has six assists in 55 games this season but is more known for his defensive prowess. In the past, Weaver has been considered something of a specialist against Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals. "If I stay out of the paper, Im doing my job," he said jokingly, as quoted by the Canadiens official website. "Im not a guy whos going to score a lot of points but I do the little things like block shots and penalty killing is my specialty. Id rather block a shot than score a goal so I guess you could say Im a goalies best friend back there." As the Panthers make moves for next season and beyond, general manager Dale Tallon was more than willing to give Weaver a shot to go to the Canadiens. "Were just looking too the future. George Trafton Jersey. Montreal was in need of a solid defensive defenceman, and we felt that it was a good thing for Mike Weaver to get into the playoff picture and have a good opportunity to win with Montreal," Tallon said on a conference call Tuesday night. "Hes a great warrior, played his rear end off for us every night, blocked, shots, killed penalties, so I wish him well." Weaver has played in 585 career NHL games with the Panthers, Atlanta Thrashers, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks and St. Louis Blues. This is the first time he has been traded. Its the second year in a row the Habs went for defensive depth at the blue-line. They traded a fifth-rounder last year to the Kings for Davis Drewiskie, who played nine games for Montreal to finish out the 2013 season. Weaver is in the final season of a US$2.2-million, two-year deal. He is set to be an unrestricted free agent July 1. ' ' '

AFC Wimbledon secured their first win over Oxford United and ended their unbeaten home record with a comfortable 3-1 win at the Kassam Stadium on Sunday afternoon. A. J. Hawk Jersey . The victory means AFC Wimbledon are above MK Dons in the Football League for the first time in their history.Wimbledon began slowly but landed the first blow when Tom Elliott reacted to Darius Charles knocking the ball back across the box to head in the opener. Charles went from provider to scorer when he curled a stunner past Simon Eastwood under controversial circumstances, and with a minute until the break, Andy Barcham ran onto an excellent through ball from Jake Reeves to finish calmly. The Us came out with a point to prove and Chris Maguire broke down the right, delivering a low cross which was steered beyond James Shea by Charles, his own defender. The match begun slowly for Wimbledon in the opening 15 minutes, with only Lyle Taylor showing any flair and incentive to get the visitors going. However, for all of the possession and pressing from Oxford, it was Wimbledon who broke the deadlock. A floating corner found the head of Charles, who showed great awareness to play the ball back across goal and onto the head of Elliott, who powered his effort over the line despite the best efforts of two defenders. That goal - the sixth headed by Wimbledon, the most in the league - stunned the hosts, who subsequently abandoned their passing football for a more direct approach in the hope of levelling the score.A scrappy contest was nearly lit up by a moment of brilliance from Liam Sercombe, who controlled superbly from a strong pass and jinked his way into the area, but his outside-of-the boot effort went agonisingly wide of the right hand post. Watch NOW TV Watch Sky Sports for just £6.99. No contract. With the interval fast approaching, Wimbledon doubled their lead and did so in spectacular fashion, through an unlikely source.A heavy tackle on Wes Thomas by former Stevenage midfielder Dean Parrett looked to be on the over zealous side, but referee Darren Deadman saw nothing wrong and the ball rolled kindly to Charles who bent it into the top corner. With celebrations still ongoing, Wimbledon would soon be enjoying another goal just a minute later following a great run from Reeves, who then played the perfect pass into the path of Barcham and he calmly rolled the ball into the back of the net.Michael Appleton - who must have been furious at watching his side fall apart - sent them back out onto the pitch early, his words still ringing in their ears as they looked to mount a comeback. And they began in exactly the right manner to do so. Breaking into the box after a powerful surge down the right, Maguire fizzed in a low cross and Charles stretched to divert the ball behind for a corner, but could only watch in disbelief as he put into his own goal. That should have sparked a comeback for the home team, but they found the first-half brilliance of Wimbledon coupled with their own errors too much to deal with and in the end it was a comfortable win for Wimbledon who now move up to 10th with Oxford dropping down to 13th.You can watch Englands tour of Bangladesh, plus Premier League football and the British Masters on Sky Sports. BARCELONA, Spain -- Getafe eased past 10-man Granada 2-0 on Sunday to match a club record with a fourth consecutive win that kept the Madrid side close to the top four in the Spanish league. Rayo Vallecano and Elche also had players dismissed but both earned victories away from home, while Sevilla conceded two goals in the last 10 minutes to slip to a 2-2 draw at Valladolid. Visiting Getafe was helped by a disastrous day for Granadas centre backs, with one being sent off early and the other opening the scoring with an own goal. Pape Diakhate received his second yellow card in the 31st minute and defensive partner Jeison Murillo knocked Pedro Leons cross into Granadas goal two minutes after halftime. Leon sealed the result for Getafe in the 55th with a first-touch strike from the edge of the area. "Im very happy for my players and our fans. They should enjoy this, but stay humble and keep working." Getafe climbed to one point behind fourth-place Villarreal before it plays at Athletic Bilbao on Monday. Barcelona leads the league after a 0-0 draw at Osasuna on Saturday when Atletico Madrid lost 1-0 at Espanyol to fall one point behind. Real Madrid is a further two points back in third place after beating Malaga 2-0, also on Saturday. Granadas struggles in attack continued with a league-low five goals through nine rounds. Its fourth loss in five home games this season sparked sections of the Los Carmeenes Stadium crowd to call for coach Lucas Alcaraz to step down. Derek Grant Jersey. Rayo defender Alejandro Galvezs stinging free kick in the 78th lifted his team 1-0 over last-place Almeria, which remained the only side in the top flight without a win this season. Rayo appeared to be in trouble after defender Saul Niguez was dismissed with his second booking in the 65th. But Almeria failed to take advantage of the extra man before Galvez blasted a free kick just inside the near corner of the upright to give Rayo its second win in a row. "We are down, just like everyone who feels something for this team," said coach Francisco Rodriguez, who hired by the promoted Almeria this off-season. Elche built an early lead and held on after going down a man to edge Real Betis 2-1, giving the promoted side its third straight victory. Elche struck first in Seville when Manuel del Moral headed in Domingo Cismas well-placed cross to meet his run at the first post in the 29th. Fidel Chivas extended Elches lead five minutes later, only for Jorge Molina to pull one back for Betis in the 41st. Elche resisted for almost the entire second half after Cisma saw his second yellow card a minute after the break. Sevilla dominated Valladolid for 80 minutes after going in front on striker Carlos Baccas precise strike two minutes in that Alberto Moreno doubled in the 31st with a long-range effort. Yet when it looked like Valladolid was done, substitute Manucho rose over his marker to head home a cross in the 81st, and three minutes later Patrick Ebert curled in a free kick to split the points. OAKLAND, Calif. Rodney McCray Jersey . -- Scott Kazmir will have to wait at least one more day to make his debut for the Oakland Athletics and pitch against his former team. Its not exactly the kind of doubleheader he had planned. The game between the As and Cleveland Indians was postponed because of rain Tuesday night. It was the first rainout in Oakland since May 5, 1998. "I think Kaz brought all the rain with him. You can blame it on him," said right-hander Corey Kluber, the Indians scheduled starter. The game will be made up in a day-night doubleheader Wednesday. The first game is scheduled to start at 12:35 p.m. PDT and the second game at 6 p.m. PDT. Kazmir and Kluber will start the opener. Zach McAllister will take the mound for the Indians in the second game, while As manager Bob Melvin said his starter is "to be announced." Jesse Chavez had been scheduled to start for the As Wednesday, but Melvin said he will likely push him back until Thursday -- and move the rest of his rotation back one day. Teams are allowed to add a 26th man to the 25-man roster for day-night doubleheaders, so Oakland could call-up a pitcher from Triple-A Sacramento to make the start. Cleveland beat the As 2-0 in Monday nights season opener, which was played between rain storms that have soaked the San Francisco Bay Area this week. The Indians have Thursday off before hosting Minnesota in its home opener Friday in Cleveland, and the As open a four-game series against Seattle on Thursday in Oakland. The forecast for Wednesday was for a high of 61 degrees and a 10 per cent chance of rain. "I kind of like day games," Kazmir said. "Just throughout my career, I dont know, I just like it -- get up in the morning and go right to it." The 19th rainout in Oakland history, including the post-season, covered the Coliseum with so much water so early that officials postponed the game about 90 minutes before the scheduled first pitch. A couple dozen grounds crew workers carried large brooms to sweep water off the tarp all afternoon. Some Indians players briefly came out to right field to go through some warm-ups during a brief break in the rain -- then quickly scrambled back to the clubhouse when another band of rain began falling. With no fans inside the spacious Coliseum, Kazmir played catch for about 15 minutes in a covered section of the upper-deck concourse near the concessions after officials postponed the game. "I was ready to pitch today. You cant let your guard down. I was ready to go." Kazmir said. "What can you do? Be ready to go early, thats all you can do." Kazmir has waited all winter to make his As debut. He signed a two-year, $22 million contract with Oakland as a free agent after spending last year with Cleveland. He went 10-9 for the Indians last season on a one-year, $1 million contract. Kazmir struck out 162 in 158 innings and had a 4.04 ERA over 29 starts, rediscovering his groove and the zip on his fastball. Indians manager Terry Francona saw Kazmirs renaissance firsthand. While Kazmir knows the tendencies of Clevelands hitters, Francona said the Indians also know what Kazmir wants to do as well. "I dont think anybody really has the advantage," Francona said. "The pitcher holds the ball, so the first advantage always goes to him. But what we do with it is up to us. Hes good. We think hes pretty good. But our job is to beat him now." NOTES: Francona said he moved switch-hitting SS Asdrubal Cabrera into the leadoff spot Tuesday because he wanted to keep everybody in their normal spot in the order while Michael Bourn is out with a strained left hamstring. Lefty Nyjer Morgan started Mondays opener, but with the left-handed Kazmir on the mound, Francona opted to go with Cabrera. ... Melvin said As starter Sonny Grays right ankle is fine after a comebacker from Cabrera hit off the pitchers right ankle Monday night. ... ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orlando City owner Flavio Augusto da Silva knows theres no way his MLS expansion franchise could take the place of any Brazil club in the hearts of any Brazilian soccer fan. But with the signing of Kaka, da Silva hopes theres one room for more. "We want to be that second club," da Silva said Tuesday when Orlando City formally introduced the Brazilian three-time World Cup participant. The 32-year old midfielder, whose full name is Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite, will join the MLS club when it begins play in January 2015. Until then, he will be on loan to San Paulo FC. He most recently played for AC Milan, terminating that contract last week. His deal with Orlando City is for three-and-a-half years. "This is not about the money," said Kaka, the world player of the year in 2007. "I know you know my resume. I can play anywhere else if money were the top question. This is a life opportunity, for myself, for my family. Players from now on will be looking for soccer opportunity in the United States." Over 200 fans greeted Kaka Monday night at Orlando International Airport. He was expected to join a watch party of the United States-Belgium World Cup match Tuesday afternoon. Some City streetlightss had a ". Fake Rockets Jerseys. omingsoon" hashtag with Kafkas silhouette outside the downtown club where the press conference was held Kaka was expected to join a watch party of the United States-Belgium World Cup match Tuesday afternoon. The signing was the culmination of two years of "flirting" between da Silva and Kaka ("I love Flavio, but Im married and so is he," Kaka joked) after the World Cup champion MVP served as a spokesman for one of da Silvas companies. Even after da Silva sold the company, his pursuit continued as Kaka entertained some MLS offers, most notably from New York. Both Kakas appreciation of the Orlando market as well as Brazil delivering the highest number of international visitors to the destination, influenced his decision to become the face of Orlandos startup efforts as the MLS 21st franchise. The team has won two USL Pro regular season titles and two post season championships. Orlando City co-owner Phil Rawlins said that signing Kaka was one of the franchises primary goals. "Not only did we sign a Brazilian superstar, we signed a world superstar," Rawlins said. "Kaka is not here to retire, hes here to win. Weve put the MLS on notice." 16:38ET 01-07-14 ' ' '

BRASILIA, Brazil - After being touted as one of the World Cups entertainers, it was a gritty performance which got France through to the quarterfinals in a 2-0 victory over Nigeria on Monday. Tandon Doss Jersey . Frances forward line had made headlines with eight goals in its opening two group games, but there was little flair on display in a hard-fought contest against the African champions. France needed a late header from midfielder Paul Pogba and an injury-time own goal from defender Joseph Yobo to overcome a robust Nigeria. The reward is a quarterfinal against Germany on Friday at Rio de Janeiros Maracana stadium, following the Germans 2-1 victory over Algeria. Pogbas goal in the 79th minute followed Nigerias best spell of the match and came soon after France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris had made a crucial save to deny Peter Odemwingie. "Were not the prettiest or the best, but we can do good things," France coach Didier Deschamps said after the game. "The deliverance came late. There was a lot of tension because we were up against a very athletic side and there were a lot of challenges." Nigeria, which had a goal ruled out for offside in the 19th minute after Emmanuel Emenike poked home Ahmed Musas cross from the left, wasted a lot of second-half possession. Four years ago, France crashed out of the group stage, shamed a nation by going on strike and was jeered by its own fans and lambasted by politicians in the fallout from an embarrassing tournament. Its very different situation now. "Im proud of my players because were coming back from very far. I think weve given a lot of pleasure back to our fans," Deschamps said. "I think there were 5,000 here and millions back home who will feel proud." Pogbas crucial goal came after Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama had just made a superb save to tip over Karim Benzemas header. But he he flapped at the ball from the ensuing corner and Pogba pounced in the 79th minute for his first World Cup goal. That atoned for placing a volley too close to Enyeama in a scrappy first half. Scoring such a crucial goal will boost his confidence heading into the last eight game. "We have four days left to prepare for another battle," Deschamps said. Yobo, who announced his international retirement after the game, turned the ball into his own net in stoppage time under pressure from France substitute Antoine Griezmann. At the final whistle, Frances relieved players danced in front of their fans as dreams of a repeat run to the final — just like in 2006 — moved a step closer. "We had the whole country behind us," Pogba said. "Its one of the proudest moments of my life." France started slowly and finished strongly in the second round match. "Ive yet to see a team play well over the whole 90 minutes," Deschamps said. "Nigeria dropped off a bit and that allowed us to get on top." After Griezmann came on, Benzema finally came alive in the 70th, opening up the defence after a clever one-two with the France substitute. After Enyeama blocked Benzemas initial shot, his follow-up effort was hacked clear by Victor Moses. Video technology confirmed that the ball had not crossed the line. France failed to show the attacking flair of previous games, with Giroud skewing a shot wide early on. He also appeared to elbow John Obi Mikel in an off-the ball incident, having done the same in last weeks 0-0 draw with Ecuador after coming on as a second-half substitute. "The referee saw it and didnt even give him a warning. Not a yellow card, nothing," Mikel said. "The intention was there." Keshi was highly critical of American referee Mark Geigers handling of the game. "The ref is a human being, but a lot of mistakes were questionable," he said. "Giroud elbow, Pogba foot up ... he decides what happens on the field. Im not happy with the ref." Two chances were missed late in the half. Full-back Mathieu Debuchy smacked a shot wide and into the back of a steward, and Emenike saw his sharp drive from the edge of the area palmed away by Lloris. With Nigeria starting to dominate possession, Deschamps made a key change in the 62nd, taking Giroud off and bringing on Griezmann, freeing Benzema to play through the middle. Nigeria continued to push forward and centre half Laurent Kocielny cut out Musas dangerous cross from the right. But toward the end, it was all France as Griezmann boosted the attack. He almost made it 2-0 in the 85th that Enyeama tipped over brilliantly. Instead, it fell to Yobo to inadvertently add Frances second goal. ___ Lineups: France: Hugo Lloris; Mathieu Debuchy, Raphael Varane, Laurent Koscielny, Patrice Evra; Paul Pogba, Yohan Cabaye, Blaise Matuidi; Mathieu Valbuena (Moussa Sissoko, 94th), Olivier Giroud (Antoine Griezmann, 62nd), Karim Benzema. Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Hey Kerry, Undoubtedly you will receive a lot of emails regarding this game. I have a question regarding the position of the linesman on the missed offside call that led to the Avs tying the game late in the third period against the Wild on Friday. Why is the linesman positioned outside the blue line? Shouldnt he be inside the line so that his body or skates arent inadvertently the cause of an offside for the attacking team? If he were in position inside the line, he surely wouldnt have to lean away from the line as he does in the photograph all over the media. I would like to know your thoughts. Thanks. DJ Waldron DJ, I want to establish first and foremost that Pierre Racicot is universally accepted as one of the top linesman in the NHL. Racicots high level of skill and competency has been recognized with seven consecutive selections to work the Stanley Cup Final. I worked many games with Pierre and can tell you firsthand that he has earned much deserved respect from players and coaches throughout the League. No matter how good a player or official is, mistakes are sometimes made. The great officials minimize their mistakes and Racicot clearly falls into that category. This is one of the very few times that this linesman got the call wrong. Let me explain why that happened. As you point out DJ, linesman Racicots initial decision to set up outside the blue line created an obstructed view of the inside edge of the line once Nathan MacKinnon carried the puck a mere couple of feet in front of the linesman. From this less than perfect position, and with Paul Stastny in full stride and about to cross the line to the right of MacKinnon, Racicot made the quick, but unfortunate, decision to alter his upper body posture away from the line. This move, made in a millisecond of time, was initiated by the linesman in an effort to gain an angle that might allow him to see both the puck and Stastny crossing the inside edge of the blue line. What this new angle created for the linesman, however, was a sightline toward the middle of the ice that became obstructed by the body of MacKinnon. Offside resulted in the blink of an eye as Stastnys lead skate (and with his back skate in the air not in contact with the line or outside the attacking zone) crossed inches ahead of the puck and resultedd in a rare missed call by Racicot. Jihad Ward Jersey. I had the opportunity to work with some incredibly talented linesmen during the course of my career; Pierre Racicot included. As I was writing this column I spoke with HHOF member and former colleague Ray Scapinello to provide us with some technical insight on a play of this nature. Scamp said that he learned from fellow Hall-of-Fame members John DAmico and Matt Pavelich that, as a rule of thumb, it was imperative for the linesman to be set inside the blue line prior to players and the puck crossing the line. Im sure it might have happened through unavoidable circumstance but I cant ever remember Scapinello making a decision on an off-side from the neutral zone. On the contrary, I have vivid memories of Scamp positioned inside the zone, down on one knee and looking along the inside edge of the blue line to render his accurate decision on a close call. Once the play was deemed on-side, the little fellow jumped up and quickly moved his skates outside the blue line to avoid being hit with the puck and preventing it from exiting the zone. Ray stressed the importance of the linesmen seeing the attack develop, moving quickly to set up inside the blue line and waiting to make the call as the puck and players cross the line. Scamp said this, especially with the red line no longer in play for the off-side pass rule and the linesmen must be dialed in for potential stretch passes. When set up inside the blue line, Ray said it didnt matter if all five attacking players crossed the line at the same time because his view would not be obstructed. The rare missed offside call by Racicot was an anomaly for this highly skilled professional linesman. He will learn from this experience and gain an unobstructed sightline from a position inside the blue line whenever possible. If, in the future, there is a need to alter his upper body posture/sightline along the line, my guess is Pierre will lean toward the inside edge instead of away from it. This play not only demonstrates the speed of the game but also that human error can and will occur, no matter good the player or official is. This play aside, the NHL Officiating Department could certainly use Hockey Hall of Fame legendary linesman Ray Scapinello to lead and coach the current crop of NHL linesmen, no matter how proficient they might be. Scamp learned from the very best in his day; the present group of linesman should be afforded the same privilege. ' ' '

TAMPA, Fla. Ken Dorsey Jersey . - The struggling Ottawa Senators needed a boost Monday night, and their first-year captain provided it. Jason Spezza scored in regulation and had the only goal in a shootout, lifting the Senators to a 4-3 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Defenceman Erik Karlsson had a goal and two assists, and goalie Robin Lehner made 35 saves to help the Senators halt a six-game losing streak. "Its been a frustrating stretch of games here and difficult emotionally for us to lose that many hockey games in a row at this time of year," Spezza said. "Hopefully we can string a few together and feel good about ourselves again and just move forward," Karlsson said. "I think weve improved our game a lot, even though it hasnt been enough lately." Karlsson, the top-scoring defenceman in the NHL with 68 points, opened the scoring 3:57 into the game with his career-high 20th goal. Seventy seconds later, Nikita Kucherov snapped a shot past Lehner to tie it at 1. Ottawa took a 3-1 lead midway through the second period, when Spezza and Kyle Turris scored 44 seconds apart against former Senators goalie Ben Bishop. "Hes one of the best players in the world," Bishop said of Spezza. "I had him last time, he got me this time. I think were even now." The Lightning rallied from a two-goal deficit with power-play goals by Victor Hedman at 13:26 of the second period and Steven Stamkos at 5:44 of the third. Bishop finished with 29 stops for Tampa Bay, which has earned a point in nine consecutive games (5-0-4) for the first time since its 2003-04 championship season. The loss, however, dropped the Lightning into a third-place tie in the Eastern Conference with the Montreal Canadiens, who won a shootout at Boston. "We need to get every point that we can," Hedman said. "We want to be as high up in the standings as we can and get home ice." The Senators, meanwhile, are determined to finish strong. "We are fighting to the end and its nice for the guys to get this one," said Lehner, who won only once in his first seven career shootout appearances. Notes: Stamkos played in his 400th NHL game. ... SAN FRANCISCO -- Much like the San Francisco 49ers, Antoine Bethea understands the disappointment of losing a Super Bowl. That defeat came with the Indianapolis Colts after the 2009 season. San Franciscos new safety also won a championship during his rookie season of 2006. Bethea insists he is ready for another ring after finalizing his new $23 million, four-year contract with the 49ers on Wednesday, becoming a key new presence in the secondary after Donte Whitners departure to the Cleveland Browns. "One of the reasons Im here in San Fran, to try to get another ring," Bethea said. "Thats what Im here to do." Bethea announced Tuesday on Twitter he had joined the 49ers, then the team made it formal Wednesday. The 29-year-old Bethea had 110 tackles, two interceptions and a sack last season, his sixth straight year starting every game for the Colts. "Just as a football fan, you have to notice the talent they have on the team. You have to respect what theyve been able to accomplish these last couple years," Bethea said. "First of all, its a winning organization. From the past couple years, from outside looking in, an extremely good team. It looks like they have a ball out there on the field. Coming in, knowing this defence, a great defence, a great front seven, a great back end, I just wanted to come in and do my part." A two-time Pro Bowler, Bethea was a sixth-round draft pick by the Colts out of Howard in 2006. "Antoine is a durable, experienced player who has competed at a high level throughout his career in the National Football League," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said. "He has proven to be a man of high character and iss a welcome addition to our team and the Bay Area community. Jimmie Ward Jersey. " He will be called upon to help lead the secondary after Whitner made the calls for that unit, and will work with 2013 top draft pick Eric Reid after his impressive rookie season. "Im ready for that. Eric Reid he had a great year," Bethea said. "With us working together, well be fine. ... Whatever it is, Im willing to do whatever I need to do to help this team win, for this defence to be successful." Also Wednesday, San Francisco re-signed cornerback Eric Wright to a one-year contract. He posted a photo Tuesday on Instagram of his new contract. Wright had seven tackles and an interception in seven games for San Francisco last season. Wright spent the first half of the season on the reserve/non-football injury list to handle what the team called a personal matter after he signed a one-year contract last August. Wright had been traded to the 49ers in July for a conditional draft pick in 2014, but he failed his physical, nullifying the deal. Tampa Bay then released Wright. Shortly after the trade, reports surfaced that Wright had been arrested a week earlier in Los Angeles on an unspecified misdemeanour charge. Baalke said the team was aware of the situation. Wright was arrested in 2012 on felony DUI charges and was suspended for four games last season by the NFL for violating the performance-enhancing drug policy in his first season with the Bucs. He finished with 37 tackles and one interception in 10 games, all starts. The 28-year-old Wright, a San Francisco native entering his eighth NFL season, had signed a five-year, $35.3 million contract with Tampa Bay in 2012. ' ' '

MONTREAL -- Charles Hamelin is confident that he wont stop at just one gold medal at the world short-track speedskating championships. Cheap Flames Jerseys . Three weeks after winning gold in the 1,500 metres at the Sochi Olympics, Hamelin did it again Friday as he cruised to the win in the opening event at the Maurice Richard Arena. The 1,500 used to be the weakest event for the Ste-Julie, Que., skater, but now he seems to own the distance as he easily finished ahead of Han Tianyu of China and bronze medallist Park Se Yeong of South Korea. Earlier this week, the 29-year-old Hamelin announced that he will continue to skate at least four more years until the 2018 Winter Games in South Korea. "In the 1,500 metres, every time I go on the podium now it proves that the work Ive done in the last four years has really paid off," he said. "Its proof that Im improving year after year. "Thats a big part of why I wanted to continue for four more years. You can see Im still strong. After a big event like Sochi, I was able to come back and refocus on what I need to do here. Im ready." Now he hopes to avoid the bad luck that followed his Olympic gold. In Sochi, he inexplicably fell in the heats of both the 500 and 1,000-metre events, dashing his hopes of sweeping the individual distances. He said the world championships are different because, instead of waiting a day or two between skates like at the Olympics, he will be back on the track Saturday for the 500 metres and the mens relay heats and again on Sunday for the 1,000, the 3,000, and, he hopes, the relay final. "Momentum is a big part of it and right now, its on my side," he said. "I had a great race and I know Im strong in the 500 and 1,000 metres." Hamelins goal is to win the overall title, which goes to the skater who does best cumulatively in the individual events. He has come second for that honour twice, but has never won it. He said the first rule is to avoid a disqualification in any race. The large crowd of mostly school children in the stands was worried that might happen when, halfway through the race, Hamelin nearly crashed into a South Korean. He managed to stay upright and then pass Han on the final lap to claim the win. Race officials did not call a foul. "He passed me on the outside and came back really quickly in front of me," said Hamelin. "He was one or two centimetres from hitting my blades. "It could have been a disaster for me, but I was able to control myself and not push too hard or lose too much speed. For him, the race was kind of over. It was a scary moment in the race." Hamelins biggest rival in recent years, five-time overall world champion Victor An of Russia, formerly known as Ahn Hyun-Soo of South Korea, never mounted a challenge and finished fourth. An won three golds and a bronze in Sochi. Wu Dajing of China was fifth ahead of South Koreans Lee Han-Bin and Sin Da Woon. Olivier Jean of Lachenaie, Que., and Charle Cournoyer of Boucherville, Que., were eliminated in the semifinals. South Korea swept the podium in the womens 1,500. Shim Suk Hee finished first ahead of Kim Alang and Park Seung-Hi. Valerie Maltais of La Baie, Que., was caught at the finish line by Park and settled for fourth. Marianne St-Gelais lost in the semifinals while Marie-Eve Drolet was beaten in the heats and was classified 22nd. Calgary Flames Shirts . The sports first American team in 30 years made a dream start to life in F1 with sixth and fifth place finishes in Australia and Bahrain respectively, but then suddenly struggled throughout the Chinese GP.Grosjean, who was involved in contact on the opening lap, finished 18th in Shanghai and team-mate Esteban Gutierrez fared little better in 14th place. However, with the teams disappointing performance having required deep analysis in the week that followed, Grosjean reckons they are now actually better placed to move forward. It was a very positive weekend for us [in retrospect] because we have done much more analysis after China than we did after Bahrain, he said on Thursday in Sochi. We could see real problems and understand why we were always on the back foot and understand why [the car] wasnt reacting to the next problems, and what we did right and wrong.Im quite amazed by the reaction back at the factory with everything which has been done and put in place for here. Im looking forward to getting back in the car and after a few laps [to see] were back where we want it to be. Then we can work from there. Natalie Pinkham is joined by former McLaren mechanic Marc Priestley and former Williams Senior Operations Engineer Dominic Harlow to look ahead to Russia The Frenchman admits there were quite a lot of problems for the team to resolve after returning to base, with weekend-long tyre pressure problems in Shanghai having been made worse by our set-up and the way we ran the car. Flames Jerseys 2021. It was as well the way we reacted to problems, Grosjean explained. With disrupted sessions it was hard to catch up and the way we tried to catch up, and the direction we went, was sometimes not good and actually making the problems worse. So, all of that together, its nice to now see it as a big picture and know that if it happens again we can ask the questions in a different way and react differently.Nonetheless, Grosjeans impressive 18-point haul from the opening two rounds mean Haas remain fifth in the Constructors Championship and the recently-turned 30-year-old is optimistic they can make an immediate return to top-10 contention this weekend.Back in the points is possible if we get everything back to how we want it and back to how it was initially in the season, he added.Watch the whole Russian GP weekend - LIVE ONLY on Sky Sports F1. BROOKLYN - There are more than a few self-inflicted ways to explain the Raptors Game 3 loss, a contest they deserved to lose, but when it was all said and done the conversation surrounded a familiar quandary. Air Max 97 Womens Sale Australia . How much did a series of questionable late-game calls derail Torontos comeback bid? "I mean, is that something new," Patrick Patterson asked rhetorically on the heels of Fridays 102-98 loss to Brooklyn, giving the Nets a 2-1 series advantage. Its not the first time hes made this point. Its not the first time hes had to. "In regards to calls not going our way or us feeling a certain way about referees, it has been taking place all year long," he continued. "For us to think it is going to change in the playoffs, we are fooling ourselves." The Raptors were making one final push, flirting with what would have been another unlikely comeback - which has become something of a specialty - when a couple of poor calls shifted the attention from their wretched play to the men in grey. They were down by as many as 15 points midway through the fourth quarter as they began to chip away at their well-earned deficit. Patterson hit a triple, his first of two during the run, DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry both converted three-point plays. A disappointing Barclays Center crowd went from apathetic to pathetic in a hurry and before long, the Nets lead was down to four. Surprised by the comeback? "No," Patterson exclaimed. "We have done that all year long." That they have. Unfortunately, procrastination is a dangerous thing, especially in this league, especially at this time of the year. More often than not it renders you vulnerable to the elements. With 47 seconds remaining, Greivis Vasquez was whistled for a foul, one he and his team vehemently disagreed with. Moments later he was slapped with a subsequent technical foul, a rare late-game penalty - especially in the playoffs - for the fairly pedestrian protest that took place. "I wasnt really cursing or anything like that," Vasquez told reporters after the game. "I was just saying he pushed me off a little bit and they called a tech. Thats just the way it is." "I cant remember one [being called at that point of game]," DeRozan added. "Its tough, especially during that time." From that point on five fouls were called, three on the Nets, two on Toronto, one of which was intentional. The officials had put their stamp on the game. "Lets let the game be dictated by [the players]," urged Dwane Casey, who is frequently tight-lipped after his team gets jobbed by the officials, a disturbingly consistent occurrence. This night was no different. Casey began his post-game address by using whatever voice he had left to apologize for his warn out vocal cords. "Again, I like my money but Ive got to go back and look at the tape," he said, pleading the fifth. "I had a different view of [those calls] than [the officials] did." The Raptors coach was barely audible but his face said it all. This is a topic hes grown tired of dodging. "I dont want to talk about the referees," said Vasquez, another Raptor who would rather not write a cheque to the league office Saturday morning. "The referees are going to go to sleep fine, Im not going to go to sleep because we lost." "That wasnt really dictating the game or anything like that. Cant blame it on the referees. Were not going to make excuses. It was just a play and I got a tech. Its part of the game." Therein lies the unfortunate reality. The officials didnt do them any favours, they rarely do, but the Raptors can and should only look inwards. Following a hot start, carrying over from Tuesdays spirited fourth-quarter run, they were outplayed, outmuscled and outworked for the bulk of the evening. The Nets outscored Toronto 58-43 in the second and third quarters, shooting 58 per cent and holding a 20-point advantage in the paint during that stretch. Brooklyn was the aggressor on both ends of the floor and naturally that physical style of play favoured the home team. "They picked up their defence, they were a lot more aggressive," said DeRozan, who led the Raptors with his second straight 30-point outing. "Weve just got to continue to play through the hits, be more aggressive in games. Weve just got to be more conscious of doing that." Thats playoff basketball for you and no one does it better than a veteran, battle-tested team like the Nets. Want proof? See Lowry, as he hobbles out of the visitors dressing room, taking most of the boroughs ice along with him. "Hes been in a 15-round bout," Casey said of Lowry, who tweaked his right knee injury late in the first quarter, limiting him throughout the game, and needed one stitch to close up a cut - still bleeding after the game - on his lower lip. "Its part of the playoffs, man," he said. "Im happy, Im excited to be icing up at this time [of year]." Any doubt hell be in the lineup when the Nets host Game 4 on Sunday? "Is that a trick question," Lowry asked. Hell be ready to go and his team will need him. Theyll need Amir Johnson - seven points in 28 minutes Friday - to be better. Theyll need something, anything from Terrence Ross, who was held to five points, struggling in his third straight playoff contest. Theyll need to move the ball, protect it and engineer a more efficient and cohesive offence. Most of all theyll need their defence, theyll need to match Brooklyns physicality. "Its 2-1," Vasquez pointed out. "[Theres] no need to panic at all. This Sunday is going to be a must-win for us. We cant go home [down] 3-1." Air Force 1 Low Sale Australia . LOUIS -- The St. TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona coach Bruce Arians says there "were obviously very, very many problems" with the officiating in the Cardinals 24-21 loss at Philadelphia. Of particular concern were three plays near the end of the game. One was a holding call on safety Tyrann Mathieu that negated Patrick Petersons interception. Another was a holding call on linebacker Matt Shaughnessy on the Eagles final possession. A third was a no-call when the Cardinals felt there was pass interference on a fourth-down incompletion to Michael Floyd the last time Arizona had the ball. Asked if he felt the calls will cost the Cardinals a playoff spot, Arians said, "It possibly could, but I think a lot of things have to happen here in the last four weeks. I would hope that we give up all that talk this week and just focus on the St. Louis Rams." The Cardinals (7-5) are home against the Rams next Sunday. Arians said he sent "about 15 plays" to the NFL for review by Dean Blandino, the NFLs vice-president of officiating. "The proper channels have been followed," the Arizona coach said, "and obviously there were very, very many problems" with the officiating. Arians said Blandino "does a great job. Hes very honest with it. Ive already gotten most of the answers. I got them before I left the locker room yesterday." Arians declined to share what he was told, but asked if he gets any satisfaction from those answers, he said, "No, I just get madder." The Cardinals had rallied from a 24-7 deficit to cut the Philadelphia lead to 24-21 when Peterson intercepted Nick Foles pass at the Eagles 43 with four minutes to play. But Mathieu was called for holding on the play. It would have been the first interception Foles has thrown this season. Arians said "theres no doubt in my mind" that the Cardinals would have scored had Petersons interception stood. "We (had) just put a good drive together," Arians said, "and only needed 10 yards for a field goal to tie it." The Cardinals did get the ball back at their 10-yard line with 2:03 to play. But on third-and-five from the 15, Carson Palmer missed an open Andre Roberts, then on fourth down, Palmers pass to Floyd was incomplete. The Eagles took over on downs and, on third-and-four from the 9, Shaughnessy tackkled Foles for a loss but was called for holding, giving Philadelphia a first down and the ability to run out the clock. Balenciaga Triple s Australia. "He (the Philadelphia player) was blocking Matt on a bootleg play," Arians said. "Matt threw him to the ground and sacked the quarterback. ... It happens every time a guy tries to block you and you sack the quarterback. It was one of those problems (with the officiating)." Thats the way Shaughnessy saw it, too. "He was blocking down on me, and I was fighting the pressure, pushing him outside and he tried to release," Shaughnessy said. "I threw him down and then I went after the quarterback. I thought it was a sack." Linebacker Daryl Washington drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for complaining vehemently about the call. Mathieu avoided any complaints about the call against him when he spoke to reporters on Monday. After the game Sunday, the Arizona rookie said he thought "it was a good play. I was just trying to be a good defensive back and was trying to get a good jam on him." Even if mistakes are acknowledged by the crew headed by referee Tony Corrente, nothing can be done about it now. "As long as everybody owns up to it, you move on," Arians said. "Its part of the game. Were here working our tails off this week. Those guys (the officials) are back at their other jobs." Officiating aside, Arians said the Cardinals, who fell a game behind San Francisco for the final NFC wild card spot, made too many mistakes early against the Eagles and regressed after a four-game winning streak. He said the team cant afford to dwell on what happened in Philadelphia. Going into the game against St. Louis, Arizona has lost eight straight against NFC West foes, including three this year. "If were ever going to do anything, we better start winning our division," Arians said. "Thats our only focus this week. I dont want to hear about anything else in our locker room except winning a division game." Notes: RB Andre Ellington, who missed Sundays game with a knee injury, wont practice Wednesday, Arians said. "Im hoping to have him out there Thursday and Friday, but were not going to rush him," the coach said. "Hes too young and too valuable to cause a long-term problem." ' ' '
